About the Event

A 2 day course that develops and fine tunes your Mountaineering skills 

This course is designed for those of you who are looking to further improve their Mountaineering. Being efficient, safe and slick are really important if you are looking to get out on bigger days out, or head to the Alps or the Isle of Skye for the Cuillin Ridge

Quick decision making and good route finding can be the make or break of a big day out. Come out and make sure yours are totally up to scratch!

We will meet on Day 1 in Moel Siabod Caffi, Capel Curig at 9am and have a brew an chat before heading out into the hills. On Day 2 we will meet at 9am and spend the day on the hills (with some trips to cafes to sit and chat and ask questions!)

We will cover:

- Route selection

- Route finding and following

- Chest/Alpine coils and how to carry the rope

- Kit selection - clothing, shoes and rock climbing gear

- How to select and build 'anchors' or 'belays' on your routes

- 'Short roping' - Tips and tricksabout how to do this best!

- How to switch from walking to scrambling to climbing in the best way 

- How to get up and down routes safely.

- Sharp ridges - how do we protect them??

- Problem solving - what if we go the wrong way or someone falls?

- We can also cover any subject of your choice too - just ask :) 

n.b Each course is personalised to what you would like to do!

Food and accommodation are not included in the course fee. Get in touch if you would like help or advice with either of these. 

You will need to come prepared for a day on the hill:

- Rucksack

- Good walking/mountaineering boots (Stiffer boots (B1 or B2) are good for this, please ask if you are unsure!)

- Waterproofs (jacket and trousers)

- Warm layers

- Food and drink for the day

- Gloves and Hat

Things you need but can be borrowed at no extra charge:

- Harness

- Helmet

- Belay plate

- Bringyour own rope and climbing gear if you would like to.
