About the Event
A course for sky/mountain runners looking to improve their confidence and efficiency over exposed/scrambling terrain.
Skyrunning in the UK and Europe is becoming increasingly technical and being able to move efficiently and over scrambling terrain is vital to feeling confident and strong in these races.
In this 2-day course, we will cover all the skills you need to master moving fast and light over technical ground. This is a scrambling masterclass, with ascending and descending workshops, movement on sharp ridges, climbing skills, strength and conditioning for steep ground, as well as discussing kit and nutrition for skyrunning.
DAY 1 - Skils Day (<10km)
We will spend the first day focusing on skills and confidence boosting, looking at movement on rock, bouldering and developing trust in your feet. We will build your skill base in being reactive, dynamic and fluid on steep, uneven and loose terrain. That evening we will do a short (stationary!) session looking at shoes, kit and nutrition for running, as well as recapping some of the exercises that you can do at home to complement skyrunning.
DAY 2 - Journey Day (>/= 10km)
Day 2 will be a journey day, where we head out into the hills to put the skills to practise on graded scrambles. Focusing on fluidity and route choice, we will cover both Grade 1 and sections of Grade 2 scrambling, developing further on what we learnt on day 1.
You should leave this weekend with your head and hands feeling more confident in your ability to flow over the ground that normally slows so many of us down!
You will need:
- Good trail shoes
- Running clothing that you're comfortable in
- A running vest or rucksack
- At least 1 litre of water
- Sufficient food for the day - remember we are out all day, please bring plenty
- Waterproof trousers and jacket (must have taped seams and a hood)
- An insulated jacket
- Spare long sleeve top/fleece
- Emergency foil bivvy bag (NOT blanket)
- Phone (charged)
- Emergency cash (worth having)
- We may take helmets too - bring your own if you have one!
To attend the course, you need to have a good level of hill fitness, already do some trail/fell running and have some experience scrambling (this could be walking, it doesn’t need to scrambling whilst running!). If you are unsure if you fit the criteria, or to see if this is the right course for you, please get in touch with me by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org, or give me a ring on 07808 263591.
Food and accommodation are not included in the course fee. Get in touch if you would like help or advice with either of these.
